We've all become familiar with Santa's Reindeer. But, this has proven to be a relatively new concept. Many ages ago, Nicholas was a holy Saint. And, his good deeds were conducted in a more earthly manner. (Without the magical reindeer).

While into the 20th century, there were still attempts to innovate the annual journey of Santa Claus. It wasn't until Rudolph joined his fellow reindeer, when all opposing methods permanently vanished.
We're all familiar with Santa's Sleigh being pulled by 8 flying reindeer. The U.S.A. began theorizing this concept in the early 1800's, if not sooner.
However, many countries still held onto the patrol saint, who bore little resemblance to a jolly elf.
But, many artists attempted to leave their mark on the holiday tradition. This page is dedicated to brief attempts made circa 1903.

Perhaps, the most interesting version portrays Santa riding a zeppelin. While other postcards were influenced by early aviation. The most accurate early depictions feature Nicholas walking from house to house. Early innovations may have included a flightless journey, while being pulled by an old-fashioned sleigh. In those days, there was no need for flying reindeer. Amongst the postcards, include Santa delivering toys in an automobile, as well as, a balloon. Highly unlikely. but, it makes you realize how thankful we should be, with our existing version of Santa's Reindeer.

Let's also review the final attempt to return Santa to his religious roots. So, his delivery of toys was accompanied by The Christ Kindle. But, this only led to another namesake for Santa: Chris Kringle. Earlier goals by the Church were also fugal. Children had originally received gifts on St. Nicholas Day, each December 7th. But this wondrous occasion was then moved unto Christmas Morning. This was another vein attempt to reduce Santa's role during the holidays. But, his legend continued to grow, despite those attempts. it seems, everyone loves Santa !
